Origin

From Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz in Oaxaca’s Sierra Sur.

El Topil begins in the landscape and craft of Oaxaca. Casa Venegas works from a region shaped by mountain air, patient cultivation and a deep relationship with maguey.

The house carries three generations of mezcal knowledge into a focused new expression — preserving the culture of the palenque while bringing its heritage to a broader audience.

The name

Topil comes from topilli — the staff of command.

In local communities, a Topil is entrusted with service, order and collective responsibility. For El Topil, the name is a reminder that tradition is not decoration — it is something guarded with integrity.

From field to bottle

A complete production chain, supervised at every step.

Casa Venegas

The last word belongs to the land, the fire and the hands that keep the tradition alive.

In Miahuatlán de Porfirio Díaz, mezcal is not only made; it is inherited. It begins with maguey growing under the Sierra Sur sun, continues in the heat of the stone pit, rests in wooden vats and returns clear through copper. Every stage carries patience, memory and respect for the people who learned this craft before us.

Casa Venegas gives El Topil that deeper meaning. From La Estancia, the family preserves a mezcalero way of working where origin is not a marketing claim — it is the place, the process and the responsibility behind each bottle. Guided by generations of knowledge and the work of maestro mezcalero Don Antero Venegas, El Topil is presented as a joven mezcal with cultural weight, artisanal discipline and a story meant to be shared beyond Oaxaca.
